Community is important to me. Community is important in everyday life; you can be a part of many different communities. One community that I was a part of during high school was my group of friends. We all played basketball together, from 5th grade until our senior year of high school. We basically all grew up together; went through the high's and low's together. Sometimes our low's were really low and we needed each other immensely. Sometimes our high's were really high; some of my best memories were with these girls.
There were 5 of us. One of the girls didn't really become friends with us until our junior year of high school but she still fits in perfectly with the group. The other 4 I have known basically my entire life. We share a bond that can never be broken; we all have been through literally everything together. Spending that mush time with people you would think we got annoyed with each other, we occasionally would, but it was never too bad. No matter where we go in life I know that if I ever need anything, I can go to those girls for help.
Now that all of us are away at college, it can be tough hanging out. Out of the entire winter break, we only hung out once. This kind of sucked but at the same we were all busy working or doing family stuff. The time we hung out though was awesome. We spent the whole day making cookies and watching Christmas movies. I think we made like 7 batches of cookies and 2 batches of Buckeyes. It was a good time; hardly any baking supplies got wasted. I think this is like the fourth year in a row that we have made cookies before Christmas. I remember the first year we started this little tradition we basically got into a huge food fight. There was flour everywhere; it was not fun to clean up. Our mothers were very upset needless to say. I can seriously say that I look forward to our future cookie baking times.
These girls will forever be in my life. I intend to be in their life forever also. They are some of my closest friends. This is also one very important community in my life.
I can relate to you because I have friends back home that I don't see anymore because we've all parted ways, but I know that they would be there for me if I needed them, as would I. Great narrative.
